Bump Steer Resolved!

I just wanted to thank those on the forum who had recommended installing new struts to resolve the infamous bump-steer issue the Armada and QX have. My 08 has had a recent alignment which helped a lot but still felt way too soft in the front and jumped around on bumps like I was along for the ride vs. driving it. I currently have 59k miles on my QX so it was probably time. I had the HD's installed today and I cannot believe the difference. I also have a G35xS with 18's and it handles like it is on rails so I don't expect much from my QX. However with the strut change it tightened up my steering, took away leaning in turns and eliminated 95% of the bump-steer. The QX is now fun to drive. Even my wife noticed which says a lot! I can actually drive it with one hand on the wheel and not worry about crashing into a car in the other lane. The ride is now more firm but by no means harsh. Hard to describe as others have said. It just rides so smooth and absorbs bumps like it should. Anyway I just wanted to let anyone out who is debating taking the OEM ones out or anyone who is disappointed in the handling and bump steer to not be afraid to replace them. $180 for the struts and $160 for the installation and another 4wheel alignment. Best $340 I have ever spent! It is unfortunate that it didn't ride this way to begin with. Thanks again to everyone!:excellent

This is on my list to do.....I need a smoother ride....
Im guessing you just did the front right? I don't have the self leveling so I might do all 4 corners

Sorry I should have included the brand. Bilstein Heavy Duty front struts. (Bilstein HD's) Some on here put the Bilstein 5100's in but it depends if you have a lift or are looking to do so. I wanted stock height but a better ride and handling. The HD's are perfect for those who drive mostly on paved roads/gravel. The 5100's are adjustable via height. To answer Invanity's question...Yes you can do all four corners with the HD's. The rears are about $22 cheaper a strut too which is nice. ($90 a piece front/$68 a piece rear from Shockwarehouse.com) I just did the front due to the air suspension. In case you don't know, on Shockwarehouse.com select your year and put in "Titan 4x4" NOT Armada for the strut selection. For some reason they only list Rancho under Armada but many (including myself) have these installed and they so much better than the OEM. Rancho would work also. Maybe due to being close to 60k miles but it seriously is night and day. I drove out of the shop and hit the first railroad crossing and it put a smile on my face. I knew right then I hade made the right decision. Part number is F4-BE5-B623-HO

yeah i want to get the bilstein hd next too. by the way, does your 08 qx with the liquid onyx black, is that the black with tiny little shiny specs in the paint? i bought a touchup paint pen and it says galaxy black on it, thats what the dealership gave me and it is like dark grey, not glossy black.

Yes, the Liquid Onyx is like a metallic black with specs in the paint. From a distance looks like glossy black and up close you can then see the specs in the paint. Hides the scratches better! The Galaxy Black should be a glossy black too, but without the metallic specs. If it is Dark Grey color it could be "Smoke" but I doubt it would be labeled Galaxy Black then. Liquid Onyx Paint Code is G10. Hope that helps.

the paint pen from nissan says g10 but also says galaxy black and on the label on the qx56, it says g10. so what does g10 stand for? liquid onyx or galaxy black?

From what I have seen "both". Galaxy Black Metallic and Liquid Onyx are the same color. Liquid Onyx is the Infiniti name for the color and the Galaxy is Nissan. Black Obsiderian is another Nissan Black color buit is non-metallic. If you buy G10 Galaxy Black Metallic it should match your QX perfectly.

ok thanks. yeah certain places say g10 is galaxy black and other places say liquid onyx so that's why i'm not sure. i put on the g10 galaxy black, one coat of it and it is like dark grey. i have obsidian black in my mercedes and it is a metallic with with flakes/specs. maybe i'll try putting on a couple coats and see if it does match my paint colour...

Help!

I had the HDs put on the QX a few weeks ago at ntb. Two days later I had to have them repair passenger side due to a vibration. They told me something about the top plate being installed wrong. Now I am getting the same vibration. I called Bilstein and they told me that stock washer needs to be installed above everything and their washer below. I haven't seen anyone else complain about this issue. Please advise if possible, I prefer not taking it to dealer if I don't have to.

I have a 2015 Armada with about 52000 miles on it. I've been experiencing bump steer so I decided to purchase the Bilstein HDs to replace my front struts. I started thinking that since my Armada is still under the Nissan 60,000/5-year powertrain coverage, maybe I should take it to the dealer first. I looked up the powertrain coverage and it doesn't mention suspension as part of the coverage. But if its not covered, I don't think it would cost me anything to get their diagnosis on what the problem is. Anyone know if this would be covered? Do you think its worth bringing it to the dealer?

I'm coming back to this thread as I'm still having issues with bump steer. I had the Bilsteins put on a little over a year ago (I had an alignment and new tires put on at the same time.) and I still notice the shimmying in the steering when I go over a bump. Sometimes it's actually a little scary as I feel like I'm going to skid off the road. It's very noticeable when I'm going over 40mph and in a bit of a curve.
My question is, has anyone upgraded to Bilsteins (or any upgraded struts) and still had this problem? I only replaced the front struts. Should I also replace the rear? Is there anything else that can be replaced/upgraded? Has anyone completely fixed their bump steer issue and if so, what fixed it?
I'm really unhappy with the handling on my Armada and I'd love to get rid of it at this point.
